Allied Access AntiSpam Security Information

Using the AAI +secretword to get the email you want!

We, here at Allied Access, Inc., take our job of delivering our users a "SPAM free" mailbox very seriously. We maintain our own set of reasonably aggressive filters as well as clear or reject incoming mail by querying numerous internationally recognized "blacklist" sites to see if the mail is known to be SPAM or from a known SPAMMER. Each email is immediately rejected when believed/confirmed to be SPAM. In the rejection case the sender is notified of the delivery failure and is given a detailed explanation of why their message was rejected.

By default we do not apply the full filter capabilities on your incoing mail. Instead, we use a subset of these filters that we hope will deliver the highest benefit with the lowest false positive to our users. We can turn the filter tests on and off on an individual customer basis. We are working on a web page that will allow you to control which of these filter tests is applied to your mail. It should be online first quarter of 2004.

The effort to thwart the SPAMMERS is a continual battle. Sometimes a legitimate piece of E-mail is wrongly categorized as SPAM and rejected. If you experience mail not reaching you because of our anti-SPAM filtering there is a solution that allows a sender to by-pass our filters and be delivered into your inbox. We call this the '+secretword' system.

The '+secretword' can be any word of your choosing. By using a +secretword on your E-mail address we can set all filters on for your regular email address and allow any incoming message that is addressed using your '+secretword' to pass through.

Ex: If an email were sent to the addresses below!

Normal address: youraddress@alliedaccess.net = mail is filtered according to your filter settings - may be blocked

Secret Address: youraddress+yoursecretword@alliedaccess.net = mail is not filtered - gets delivered.

How to add a '+secretword' to your account.

First you need to contact us with the +secretword you have in mind. This needs to be done so that we can activate your +secretword in our system. To modify your current setting so that any message you send to anyone can be REPLIED-TO, follow the steps below or call technical support for assistance, we are happy to assist or explain in further detail the benefits of using this system.

The first step is to add the Secret Word to your address.

Open Outlook Express. Click the Tools button. (As seen on diagram below)

Click Accounts. (As seen on diagram below)

When the Accounts window opens, Click the Mail Tab so only your mail accounts show. (#1 on diagram below)

Highlight the account you wish to change. (#2 on diagram below, usually mailhost.intrnet.net)

Click the Properties button on the right. (#3 on diagram below)

When the Account Properties window opens, go to the Reply-To address and add your secret word as shown below.

Note: The address shown is an example. Your user name and secret word will be different.

Click the Apply button to save the changes, then click the OK button and close out.

Notify any friends, family , mailing list moderators or other individuals that you wish to be able to get all messages through to you regardless of content of the new '+secretword' address to use: youraddress+yoursecretword@alliedaccess.net (or intrnet.net if you use that domain instead.) If they use Windows (or any other) Address Book they should modify the entry for you to use the '+secretword' address.

Other than as noted above, do NOT give out your secret word address (web forms etc.) DO use your '+secretword' address when subscribing to any mailing lists. Otherwise give it only to those who notify that their mail is not getting through to you.

If you need further assistance, call Tech Support at 618-684-2255. We will be glad to assist.
